SKIN CANCER AND MOHS' SURGERY

Mark J. Doherty, MD is certified by the American Board of Dermatology and specializes in the treatment of skin cancer and its related conditions.  

 He attended Creighton University and Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha Nebraska, completing those studies in 1982.  

He then completed a medical internship requirement at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane Washington.

His residency training in both General and Surgical Dermatology was completed at Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans Louisiana.  He subsequently served on faculty staff as an assistant professor. 

In 1989, Dr. Doherty left academia to return to the Northwest and Bellingham, where he practiced for 14 years.

In 2003, he took a sabbatical from his practice and returned to LSU for additional educational experience and to become fellowship trained in Cutaneous Oncology and Mohs’ Micrographic Surgery.  Mohs’ is the surgical technique devoted to the treatment of skin cancer, named after its founder, Dr. Frederic Mohs. 

He is Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), and a Fellow of the American College of Mohs’ Surgery (ACMS).  

Dr. Doherty has been affiliated with several Bellingham physician groups . He is now providing care for the community as DOHERTY DERMATOLOGY, where he specializes in the treatment of skin cancer and associated conditions.

He was raised in Missoula Montana and is surrounded by numerous siblings and relatives in the Pacific Northwest.
